What is IPL?

IPL stands for ‘Intense Pulsed Light’ and during the treatment, the device delivers intense pulsed light in multiple wavelengths, similar to a photoflash, scattered over a precise area.  An IPL laser is capable of penetrating to the second layer of skin to treat pigment cells and eliminate unwanted pigment for more even skin tone.

Who Can Benefit from an IPL Photofacial?

An IPL photofacial has numerous benefits as aforementioned, but it is also simply beneficial for skin, in general – it helps repair small blood vessels which improves skin tone, stimulates collagen growth which improves the texture and elasticity of the skin, and can even improve acne symptoms.

Those with a darker skin tone or melasma may not be ideal candidates for an IPL photofacial because the light rays are attracted to pigment.  Thus, in those with naturally or tanned darker skin tones may experience blotchiness or skin discoloration after treatment.  Consult your physician to determine if you are an ideal candidate for IPL photofacial treatments.
